The Flesh Will Embarrass You

Yes you read right. The flesh will embarrass you. Growing up in a very strict and conservative Christian household, we had all these rules and boundaries growing up. I never questioned them and just trusted that my well-meaning parents had a good cause for them and rightly so. Navigating through senior high school, the university and then out of it presented its own fair chunk of challenges, but having lived a sheltered life by the said rules and abiding by these rules and boundaries kept me safe; even within the confines of school so I never had a problem – all is well or so I thought. Boundaries are good. Trust me! You cannot survive this lustful generation of ours without boundaries. Here’s the thing though, it is very easy to get so confident in your boundaries such that it becomes self-confidence. You begin to feel like your system has worked so well thus far and there is nothing that can penetrate it.  There is this popular scripture in 1 Corinthians 10:12 which state...

COURAGE; An Underrated Virtue

Judges 6:14 " Then the Lord turned to him and said, "Go with the strength that you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you! " We hear a lot about patience, love, honesty and all the virtues that make us better people. But one virtue that gets lost in the multitude of must-bes that we so often get bombarded with, is Courage; that ability to do something that frightens you. It is a big part of the “adulting” phase because let’s face it; we hardly know what we’re doing at any turn. The daily struggles we have are often laced with some form of performance anxiety which goes beyond just standing before crowds; we fear performing badly at work or coming off as not knowing what we’re about and even taking up more responsibility because more would be demanded of us, including answering for ourselves and for the actions of others; with just our dreams in mind and visions on paper, we start companies and hope against   hope that our strategies bring us good f...

MARCH IN YOUR COLUMN

O ur fellow partners in "adulting" phase, we bring thee warm greetings . Our previous blog post shared light on how exemplary we should be as Christians in the workplace. If you're yet to read that, we strongly encourage you to do so before you jump on this post. So here's the thing right, it feels like a bloodbath out there if you're a worker or a student. There seems to be a culture of competitiveness and almost every time, you have to keep looking over your shoulder just to be sure that no one is stabbing you in the back. Sometimes, it could be a supervisor laying a trap for you by withholding vital information, or a colleague sending mails targeted at sparking up trouble for you, or you being side-lined from meetings out of jealousy etc. Frankly, there’s no problem with that happening to us in the world because there's a reason Jesus said in this world we would have trouble, yet we should take heart because He has overcome the world. (John 16:33). If you h...

LIKE A FLOOD

One mission statement that our church, International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) has come to be known for, is “Practical Christianity, Human dignity and Excellence”. This statement goes beyond just a regular catchphrase; it carries a depth in meaning and relevance to Christians of all ages everywhere. The mandate given to us as people of God to emanate Christ, show Him forth and have our very lives be a testament of who God is, is one that we often hope for, but seldom live out. In this post, we will try to break down one aspect of our lives through which we can allow God to showcase Himself: Our professional life or career path. In the grand scheme of things, it’s nice that you can carry yourself as a nice young Christian lady or gentleman in the workplace, but more than just great interpersonal relationships with bosses and colleagues, how’s your work output? How receptive are you to corrections and critique and what exactly are you known for in your professional space? Is your work...

Stop Flirting With the Devil

Stop Flirting with the Devil. You know how it is when a new year begins and you start writing out all your new year resolutions with full vim. Although we both know it's probably the same thing you keep writing year after year but let's leave that for another day. So this year, "with my full chest", I was writing out my new year resolutions  and I always start off with my spiritual growth. So I began by scheduling fasting days, increasing the number of hours for my quiet time etc and then I was like “oh I don't have enough time in a day”. Then the Holy Spirit whispered "If you stopped flirting with the devil, you would have more than enough time". I was like "What? Flirting with the devil? How am I flirting with the devil?" So I felt led to go check out my data usage for the apps on my phone and to say I was shocked is an understatement. Granted some of us could claim we spend most of the time listening to sermons, learning new skills etc. to ...

The BONDAGE OF APPROVAL

They say time flies when you're having fun. You know where the fun was last year? Not here! But time did fly past real fast. I would have offered an apology but you already heard that in the last post **looks away shamefully**... So now that our inconsistency is out in the open, should we just move on like nothing happened or should we do the whole profuse apology thing? **awkward moment of silence*** ANYWAY, WELCOME TO 2022! We missed out on so much last year, but thank you all for your patience. We received all your texts, calls, screenshots and subtle jabs (yes, those too)..But we also recognize that we were steadily building a family of readers here and we left you high and dry. We're back with no promises, but I have a personal agenda to carry full-term this year (no pun intended), so let's do this together. I want to welcome us with something I've been thinking about for a while. Over the past few years, I have observed how societal and cultural socializations mak...

Embracing Seasons

Ecclesiastes 3:1 “To everything there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven”   We all have our own timelines, our ideals, the way in which we want things to happen for us. We want to always progress, always want to feel like we are on the move towards great things. Unfortunately, not every time in our lives feel like our best moment.  There are times we feel dry, unproductive, or that we’re underutilizing our potential. Maybe it’s a job you know you are overqualified for, and it does not seem like you’re progressing anytime soon or you are caught up in a weird spot where you have no idea where exactly your life is going; you’re just going with the flow and hoping it all works out. It could even be a particular time in your life where you just keep getting hit with one loss or the other. We’ve all been there.  The weight of unfulfillment is a truly heavy one to bear. The sense of falling behind is not an easy one to carry, so the heaviness that c...
